Biography

Jared “Papi Chulo” Mercado is a promising young flyweight from Brownsville, Texas. Boxing since 14, he is based at Retro Boxing, led by head coach Eduardo Castillo, whose discipline, focus, and shared vision have been instrumental in his development. Since turning professional in late 2024, Jared has made significant noise in the Rio Grande Valley, the 956. Competing in the lower weight classes has made securing opponents more challenging, but it has only strengthened his resolve. His style is described as old-school Mexican blended with modern boxing. He prides himself on breaking opponents down physically and mentally, studying them as the fight unfolds, and exploiting both their strengths and weaknesses. Now proudly part of BiYu Promotions, he has finally been given the opportunity to fully showcase who “Papi Chulo” is.
